Week 1

One whole week without sugar and I've actually surprised myself. Honestly...it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm always up for a challenge but I wasn't quite sure what to expect. How would I feel? Will I have cravings? What can eat? How much am I truly giving up? All in all, I must say, not bad. The first few days I was pumped and super motivated. Over the weekend we had a few plans and I was nervous about eating out. Saturday I had a major headache and all weekend I felt a little more sluggish than usual (not sure if this had anything to with staying up til 4 in the morning finishing up the True Blood series???) When I told Cardy I felt tired, his response was, "What's new?" {smart ass}

A few things I learned:
-I can pass up chocolate covered strawberries
-Sugar free treats aren't as bad as I thought (I'm trying to limit myself but they are a lifesaver in a pinch)
-There are very few cereals without sugar
-Plain oatmeal tastes like paste
-Plain yogurt tastes like sour cream

New best friends (and some re-discovered):
-Hummus. I found a kalamata olive hummus at Sunflower Market - Dee-lish!
-Laughing cow light spreadable cheese
-Light string cheese
-Fruit
-Diet Coke Zero {hey, I didn't give up carbonation or caffeine}

  1. WTG!! It is not an easy thing to give up, but I noticed after 2 weeks, it was pretty easy. After time, natural sugars, like fruit, taste sweeter than I ever remembered.

    I am training for a half marathon, so I have started to take a few GU packs with me. It took me long time to allow myself to do it, but it really helps. They are made from brown rice sugars, so I still feel like it is a better option.

    Let me know if you find any other yummy treats....I just tried SF Cinnamon Roll pudding. It sounds gross, but it was pretty fantastic!

  4. Jenn, this is awesome! I gave up sugar for a month in college. The first two weeks were hard for me, but after that I felt amazing! Almost didn't want to go back. I haven't been able to go a day without it in years, but I wish I could. Good for you! Happy LENT! (Do people say that?)
